The S2 6.9 meter sloop carries a non-masthead rig which was designed to be structurally very sound, yet maintain performance without sacrificing ease of handling. From its 5/32" stainless steel standing rigging to the internal halyards, which are led aft, the 6.9's rig will be able to meet the needs of racers and cruisers alike, Through proper tuning and maintenance the mast, together with the sails, will be the main source of power for your 6.9m sailing season after sailing season.
"The pocket version of S2's popular 7.9 meter, designed to match performance aspects in a reduced size. A good all-around club racer/day sailer, with accommodations that make her a weekend cruiser. The proportionally large mainsail and high aspect fractional rig give her the acceleration and quickness yet the responsiveness and control for any sailing condition..." S2 6.9 literature.

Comparisons of the S2 6.7, 6.9, & 22 | |||||||
Most specifications below were copied from S2 YACHTS brochures; the document for the 6.7 was dated September 15, 1980; the date of the documents for the 6.9 & 22 are not known. PHRF and Portsmouth ratings are from US Sailing Assoc., 1998. Some specs come from our own measurement. The overall length of the 6.7, 6.9, & 22 boats is 6.7 meters (22'). In a letter (6-16-98) to Bob Procter, S2 said the 6.7 and 6.9/22 hull shapes are identical; this was also later confirmed by the designer of the 6.7, Don Wennersten (12-02-98). S2 switched from polyester to a modified epoxy/vinylester resin (AME 4000) for their entire hull laminates in 1984 (around hull #59 of the 6.9 series.) 6.7s & 6.9s have balsa cored hulls and decks; the 22s' hulls are not balsa cored according to survey reports and a former dealer (Rooke sails).
